In October, iReach was launched for Flight Centre Independent SA. This cutting-edge marketing communication system is designed to enhance social media strategies and transform the way we connect and engage.
In November, we hosted our very first Independent ICONS event, which celebrated the top-selling travel advisors and agencies from the USA, Canada, South Africa, New Zealand, and Australia. The event took place on Uniworld's stunning S.S. Beatrice, exclusively reserved for our ICONS 2023 group.
The event was filled with amazing moments, delicious food, unique experiences, and unforgettable memories! We were joined by 71 travel advisors from 55 agencies and 11 representatives from nine fantastic supply partners for four nights of connection, exploration, and a joyous celebration of travel.

The world continues to open up...
During the 2nd and 3rd waves of Covid, travel became very uncertain. However, during this time, our team grew to 24, and we also had dedicated Helio consultants who exclusively managed our consultants' booking needs. Additionally, monthly fees were eliminated.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, our business was impacted, but we managed to adapt by implementing monthly fee provisions and a 100% ticketing model. Despite the challenges, we were able to expand by 53 consultants.
We also acquired access to a customised booking system, Helio, designed for FCTG. Additionally, we covered 25% of the consultant's write-offs. When the 2nd and 3rd waves of COVID-19 hit, we provided laptops to ensure flexible working conditions and ceased charging monthly fees entirely.
From these humble beginnings, Flight Centre Independent has evolved into a new business with over 175 teams and businesses, supported by a fully-fledged team with access to the best travel deals in the country.
It was evident that we were serious about our business when 12 consultants attended the Global Gathering in Las Vegas, and we won the Top Independent Brand - globally! We also had more travel opportunities, this time to Sri Lanka and Zanzibar. Our team and profits continued to grow.
FCA went global as two consultants attended FCTG’s Global Gathering in Berlin, and many others had the opportunity to enjoy an incentive trip to Seychelles. By the end of 2017, we had a total of 76 consultants, and we paid out over R1 million in product bonuses.
The brand launched exclusive trip incentives to destinations such as Mauritius and Turkey and was able to waive the signup fee, resulting in a total of 54 consultants on board.
Over the next few years, the independent business continued to grow, with money being reinvested into the business to ensure its long-term success. The brand saw improvements after transitioning to Amadeus, which streamlined its business operations. Profits increased, and new and exciting developments occurred.
Our independent advisors split from FCTG and formed a brand called Flight Centre Associates. We hired an administrative consultant, and the team continued to grow month after month, with our sales exceeding R100 million TTV.
FCTG created an Independent Model for experienced consultants to work from home. We started the model with six consultants, but after only one short year, we grew to 21 consultants.
